So, I've been a console gamer since I had an NES, then Mastersystem, then Megadrive and finally on to every iteration of the Playstation since it came out. I dabbled for a bit with a Gamecube but traded it back for a PS2. I also play a varied selection of game genres. Alas, I digress. This thread is designed to aid players in gaining the relevant skills required to be successful on the Dust battlefield.
Anyway, the point I'm getting to is;
All you FPS enthusiasts out there, what in your opinion would be the best FPS to use as a training tool to better your skills for the onslaught that will no doubt occur when this game goes live?
To the RTS enthusiasts, what is the best game to improve your skills in this field?
To MMO enthusiasts, two will spring to mind. Namely EvE and MAG, what will aid new players in understanding the complexities of the MMO genre?
Finally, and I doubt anyone will need assistance with the RPG element, but suggestions are most welcome. So please add those aswell.
Its been brought up by Debacle Nano, so I will oblige. Suggestions on any game that would improve your piloting skills for vehicles would be welcome also.
I understand that playing EvE will help a great deal in understanding the skill systems, marketplace, MMO experience, RPG elements, RTS elements, the eventual politics of the game, etc. MAG will provide FPS, MMO and RTS experience. The crux of this thread is to assist those who do not actively seek out FPS or RTS games and to provide them with games that they can use to train up these skills on. The MMO side is slightly in the background as most will have an experience in this field and my own is very slight. And, I may be wrong, but I feel that the vast majority of people will have experienced an RPG at some point.
I understand, and so should everyone, that any skill learned from an individual genre needs to be coupled with the other three in order to make us all the super soldiers we are expected to be.

Vehicles, they work about the same as they did in Mercenaries, do they not! Dammit, now I want to load a LAV with C4 and drive it towards a CRU hoping that none fell off. Then jump out and five seconds later KA-bloowie! Only just a little bit.
That was an aside, I'll add in vehicles aswell. I'm not wanting this to move anyway near game mechanics though. Theres enough bloody threads about that. |

Also I say have KZ3 VR training in Dust where you get nout from it.
Fair point, I'm pretty sure that they are bringing in PVE where you take on rogue drones.
Are there any particular games that would concisely help with these skills, games where you can learn a specific skill in each to aid you on the battle field? |

Battlefront has the most similar gun mechanics, tactics and game modes to Dust. All I can say. Play MAG and BF3 and they aren't helpful.
Battlefront was definately valid, whats your opinion on Crysis/Crysis 2, Fallout 3, Borderlands, Rage, Killzone2/3 or even say The Orange Box? As an FPS training tool.
And for tactical awareness, even though its a TPS, Vanquish or S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl as an FPS?
Do you or anyone else for that matter think that the Civilization series may be useful for planning out strategies to implement on a whole system or planet in real time? |
